Story Behind Baglamukhi Jayanti

In Hindu Mythology, during the era of Satyug, a fierce storm threatened to devastate the earth, putting all living beings in jeopardy. Troubled by the impending calamity, Lord Vishnu sought counsel from Lord Shiva for a solution. It was revealed that only the intervention of ‘Goddess Shakti’ could avert the impending disaster and safeguard the world. Thus, Lord Vishnu undertook rigorous penance to invoke the blessings of Goddess Parvati near the shores of Haridra Sarovar, known as the turmeric lake.

Witnessing the profound devotion of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Parvati manifested herself as Goddess Baglamukhi from the golden waters of the lake. With her divine presence, Goddess Baglamukhi pacified the raging storm and restored harmony to the cosmos. This significant event is commemorated as Veer Ratri, symbolizing the triumph of devotion and divine intervention in times of crisis.

A different tale weaves the story of a demon named Madan who sought power through arduous penance and was granted the ability of Vak-siddhi, where his mere words manifested into reality. However, Madan chose to wield this gift maliciously, causing distress to the innocent. Faced with the havoc wrought by Madan, the deities beseeched Goddess Baglamukhi for intervention, urging her to vanquish the demon.

In a decisive move, Mata Baglamukhi subdued Madan by seizing his tongue, thereby stripping him of his malevolent might. In his final moments, Madan implored the Goddess for recognition, and in a surprising turn, Baglamukhi granted his wish before extinguishing his existence.

Importance of Baglamukhi Jayanti

Baglamukhi Mata, also known as Bagala, is revered as the Goddess of Wisdom. She is often referred to as Stambhana due to her ability to immobilize and subdue malevolent forces that seek to cause harm to her devotees. The goddess also grants control over various aspects of a person’s psyche, such as impulsive thoughts, eating habits, speech, and anger.
