This legislation requires that private educational institutions allocate 25% of their available seats for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The RTE Act specifically dictates that private schools must reserve a quarter of their vacancies in the early stages, such as LKG and Class I, for children from economically and socially marginalized communities. Priority is given to enrolling children from specific groups including sanitation workers, individuals impacted by HIV, persons with disabilities, and orphaned children as part of the RTE admissions process.
The commencement of the admission procedure should be announced publicly, allowing ample time for applicants to submit their requests electronically to the nearest private school. Additionally, the selection process must be fair and transparent, potentially utilizing a Draw of Lots system. Following this, the results of the admission process should be prominently displayed on the school’s notice board and shared on the institution’s official website, listing all candidates along with their respective roll numbers.
