Paid Holiday on Poll Day for Lok Sabha Election 2024 in West Bengal
7 Phases Lok Sabha Election Holidays in West Bengal 2024: All government offices, organizations under the IT sector, undertakings, corporations, boards, statutory and local bodies, educational institutions, and more within both the Parliamentary Constituency and Assembly constituency will remain closed on the respective dates given below in the table so that every employee is able to exercise his or her right to franchise in the election. Furthermore, instructions are to be sent to all shops, and commercial and industrial establishments, including Tea Gardens, to declare the said dates for the concerned Parliamentary constituency as paid holidays for the workers, enabling them to exercise their votes and participate in the democratic process.
Public Holiday Declaration in West Bengal 2024 General Election
In light of the upcoming 18th General Elections to the House of People, 2024, scheduled on various dates in April, May, and June 2024 as specified by the Election Commission of India, the Governor has approved these dates as public holidays to facilitate voters in exercising their franchise.
On these designated polling days, all Government Offices, Organizations, Educational Institutions, and Commercial Establishments within the relevant constituencies will remain closed, ensuring every employee’s opportunity to participate in the electoral process. Moreover, the Labour Department will issue directives for shops and industrial units to grant paid holidays to workers on these dates to enable their voting rights. Employees stationed outside their constituencies on polling days not declared as holidays at their workplaces will be granted special leave to cast their votes.
In case of re-polls, similar provisions will apply for employees to participate in the electoral process.
Preceding polling days will be observed as local holidays for educational institutions and government offices serving as polling stations or election-related venues within the constituencies, excluding Sundays falling on 12/05/2024 and 19/05/2024. Furthermore, in instances where polling personnel are released late, special leave will be accommodated for their return to work the following day.
