Monthly Pradosham Date and Time 2024 | Pradosh Vrat 2024 Calendar Date List
Pradosham Date and Time 2024: Pradosha, also known as Pradosham, occurs bi-monthly on the thirteenth day of each fortnight in the Hindu calendar. This event is intricately linked to the reverence of the Hindu deity Shiva. The sacred three-hour window, spanning 1.5 hours before and after sunset, is deemed the most favorable and ideal time for venerating Shiva during this occasion. The fasting observance undertaken within this timeframe is referred to as the “Pradosha vrata.” To partake in this ritual, a worshipper should adorn rudraksha beads, apply Vibhuti, and pay homage to Shiva through abhisheka, sandalwood paste, bael leaves, fragrances, lamps, and food offerings.

Pradosh Vrat Date in 2024
Pradosh Vrat, referred to as Pradosham in the southern region, is a sacred observance dedicated to seeking blessings from Lord Shiva. This ritual is performed on the thirteenth day of both the waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the lunar month. Some individuals make a distinction between the Pradosham observed during the waxing and waning phases. If the Pradosham falls on a Monday, it is known as Soma Pradosham; on a Tuesday, it is termed Bhauma Pradosham, and on a Saturday, it is recognized as Shani Pradosham. Maha Pradosha occurs in the Hindu month of Maagha, either just before or on Maha Shivaratri.

Meaning of Pradosham Days
Pradosha symbolizes the names of days in the calendar. Born to Kalpa and Dosha, Pradosha had siblings named Nishita and Vyustha, representing the commencement, midpoint, and conclusion of the night. The period from each new moon to full moon is termed “Shukla Paksha,” while the time from full moon to new moon is known as “Krishna Paksha.” Every month, during each paksha, the juncture where the 13th day (Thrayodashi) aligns with the conclusion of the 12th day (Dwadashi) is referred to as Pradosha.
During the auspicious moments of pradosha, the celestial deities sought Shiva’s assistance to combat the oppressive asuras – Danavas and Daityas. They encircled Mount Kailasha, Shiva’s divine dwelling, on a Thrayodashi evening, receiving support from Nandi, Shiva’s revered bull. Shiva played a crucial role in vanquishing the asuras, leading to the tradition of venerating Shiva along with Nandi on Thrayodashi at Shiva temples.
Observances and Rituals of Pradosham
The Pradosha vrata, a sacred vow, is observed during the auspicious time of pradosha through traditional ceremonial practices. In South Indian Shiva temples, the revered bull Nandi is honored during this period. A grand procession of the festival idols depicting Shiva and Parvati seated on Nandi is carried out within the temple premises.
The Pradosha rituals are conducted during the twilight hours known as sandhya kala. Observing the vrata entails fasting and maintaining a vigil. An ablution is performed an hour before sunset, followed by the worship of deities including Shiva, Parvati, their sons Ganesha and Kartikeya, and Nandi. Subsequently, Shiva is invoked, and the narrative of Pradosha is recited upon the completion of formal worship.
